Environmental and Oceanographic Conditions at the Continental Margin of the Central Basin, Northwestern Ross Sea (Antarctica) Since the Last Glacial Maximum

چکیده
The continental margin is a key area for studying the sedimentary processes related to advance and retreat of Ross Ice Shelf (Antarctica); nevertheless, much remains be investigated. aim this study increase knowledge last glacial/deglacial dynamics in Central Basin slope–basin system using multidisciplinary approach, including integrated sedimentological, micropaleontological tephrochronological information. analyses carried out on three box cores highlighted sequences characterised by tree stratigraphic units. Collected sediments represent time interval from 24 ka Before Present (BP) present time. Grain size clustering data sortable silt component, together with diatom, silicoflagellate foraminifera assemblages indicate influence ice shelf calving zone (Unit 1, 24–17 BP), progressive receding due Circumpolar Deep Water inflow 2, 17–10.2 BP) 3, 10.2 BP–present) establishment seasonal sea strengthening bottom currents. dominant persistent process sedimentation controlled contour currents, which tend modulate intensity space. A primary volcanic ash layer dated back at around 22 BP correlated explosive activity Mount Rittmann.

cement is an essential ingredient in the concrete buildings. for production of cement considerable amount of fossil fuel and electrical energy is consumed. on the other hand for generating one tone of portland cement, nearly one ton of carbon dioxide is released. it shows that 7 percent of the total released carbon dioxide in the world relates to the cement industry. considering ecological issu...
Closing the sea level budget at the Last Glacial Maximum.
Establishing the volume of excess ice contained in the global ice sheets during the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM; ∼26,000–19,000 y ago) remains a longstanding problem in Ice Age climate dynamics. Expressed as the equivalent lowering of global mean sea level (GMSL), estimates of this value have varied from 105 (1) to 163 m (2), with many estimates suggesting ∼120 m (3). This wide range introduces s...
